5 tips on how to make packing for a long trip easier+ all you need checklist

Soon I’m setting off on a pretty long journey and  obviously I need to take quite a lot of stuff to be prepared for everything. Earlier in my life I had trouble packing all the necessary things  without taking the kitchen sink with me, but gradually I realised that with a few changes I could make my (and hopefully your) life much easier.

  1.  Write a list of the things you need in advance and stick to it. It may take a while but it makes the actual process much quicker.
  2. Try your best to organise space. If   you have just the smallest gap between things, then put that will just fit something there. You can save a lot of room this way.
  3. Yes, lots of people prefer actual books over e-books/Kindle (I’m one of those people), but for a trip it’s much easier to download all your favourite novels on your device. Saves space.
  4. If you have children, get them involved. Ask them to put together what they would like to take, so you only have to check through their things and put them in the suitcase.
  5. Roll or bundle up your clothes. It doesn’t take that long and you can always give then a bit of an iron when you get to your destination.

And as I promised, I’ll write a checklist of some things necessary for a journey. Here you go!

  • Clothes:
  • bikini/bathing costume
  • hoodies/jumpers
  • shortsleeves
  • longsleeves
  • blouses
  • a dress
  • underware
  • a coat
  • trousers ( jeans/leggings/ whatever you wear )
  • sandals/slipons
  • trainers
  • Accesorries:
  • jewellery ( if you usually wear some )
  • wristwach
  • belt ( if necessary )
  • Beauty/personal hygene:
  • shower gel
  • shampoo&conditioner
  • mini hairspray
  • hairbands&clips
  • deodorant
  • facial cleanser ( if you can get a 2in1 make-up remover one then don’t hesitate! )
  • make-up remover
  • body lotion
  • razor&shaving cream/waxing kit
  • pantyliners&tampons
  • lipbalm
  • perfume
  • hairbrush
  • toothbrush&toothpaste
  • manicure kit
  • antibacterial handgel
  • suncream
  • make-up
  • hairdryer ( if you like, but most hotels and campsites do have their own )
  • Other:
  • gadgets( laptop, tablet, phone,iPod/MP4….)
  • chargers
  • earphones/headphones
  • a pen&notepad
  • maps ( even if you do have a GPS it’s good to have it with you )
  • GPS
  • magazines/books/e-books
  • blanket& pillow ( travel size- please don’t take the douvet with you )
  • food&water

Note: if you can get travel size of things, like mini shampoo, then take those to save space.

I hope this weeks post was helpful, if so please leave a comment below!

Happy Sunday!

July favourites

Hello there!

Here are my fave products I used this month. You will find make-up,beauty and everyday products too. Enjoy!

The first product is The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla Flower body lotion which I got on my last trip to England. The scent is just incredible. It’s quite runny so you need to go careful with it. The lotion makes my skin feel extra soft and smooth. And it’s NOT tested on animals. Even better.

My new favourite notepad is the Pukka Pad Jotta notebook. I think you can get this in England as well. If you come across one, don’t even hesitate, just get it. It has 200 pages of micro-perfed quality writing paper. I highly recommend it. It’s marvellous for “proper” writing and just jotting down things. I use it as my journal and I’m obsessed with this darling. The cover design is simple, but effective; just the thing to catch your eye. As you can tell, I love it. Number 1.

Next thing on my list is a Lee Stafford Poker Straight Flat Iron Protection Shine Mist. (I literally just typed everything in that I could find on the bottle-well not quite.) This is a protecting spray that prevents any damage caused by a hair straightener. The smell is nice, and it is a great purchase if your looking for something like this. I always use it before attempting to straighten my hair-which let me tell you: isn’t that easy-, I’ve used it for a good while now and so far it’s doing a great job. I personally love it.

About a week ago I got  two Essence The Gel nail polishes. I got a pastell pink (?) and an -also pastel- blue coloured. I have tried both and like them, but I prefer the blue over the pinky-orange one. It’s delicate and appropiate for most occasions. They both do a great job in covering my nails properly and they do stay on for a reasonable amount of time;they don’t wear off that quickly. I’m going to wear both on my holiday. Bright summer colours.

Next is an also Essence (I really like this brand) Big Bright Eyes Jumbo eye pencil. The colour is quite pale, you can bearly see it, but for the summer it is perfect. It’s sparkly which is a little funky-as it says on the pencil. I didn’t actually buy this item, I got it with the Joy magazine. Good job I got it! The texture is creamy and it is the easiest eye pencil to use. It only takes me 2 seconds/eye to apply. I really like it. It isn’t heavy on your eyelids and it isn’t very flashy either but it just makes that difference you would like to have during the summer. Must have.

IMG_6238              IMG_6239

Also a summer must have is the Miss Sporty 24H Pump Up Booster waterproof mascara. I have it in the colour 001 (‘Black’). It opens up your sight, it’s waterproof and affordable – what more can you want for the hot days? I use it a lot and it looks stunning. With the Essence eye pencil mentioned above it’s just marvellous for a nude everyday look. The brush is quite big, but that is exactly what boosts those lashes up. I like the smell of it too. I don’t think it has a perfume added to it, it’s just the way it smells; whatever it is I like it.

This month I really enjoyed reading Three Amazing Things About You by Jill Mansell. I love her books, they are so funny and  romantic, but not dribbly. Her sense of humour is good. If you’re looking for a love story with a happy end, read this. Highly recommended.

I love the song Broken Home by 5 Seconds Of Summer. I listen to it every day. It is such a sad, unhappy, but unfortunately very true song. Way too many people feel exactly like that. There are so many broken homes  and this makes me feel so sad and I want to help everyone in the whole wide world. Lifegoal.

My all time fave concealer is the Essence (what a surprise) Stay All Day 16H long-lasting concealer. It covers bags under the eyes and spots/blemishes beautifully without lying heavily on your skin. It makes me look very fresh even if I didn’t sleep a lot the night before or I have some nasty little spots that day. This one is a liquid concealer, which I prefer to the cover sticks. Mine is in the colour 20 (‘Soft Beige’), but you can get them in various shades.  5*

Last but not least: The Body Shop Honeymania Bubble Bath Melt. It comes in a 300 ml jar. The perfume is amazing; if you have a sweet tooth like me, you’re going to love it( don’t eat it though). And if you are like me in the case of still loving a massive amount of bubbles in the bath to play with regardless of your age, then this is your paradise. Honestly, I haven’t found a bubblebath that would relax me this much.  The perfect thing after a long, tiring day at work/school. AND it’s Fair Trade and not tested on animals. Lovely.

I really hope you liked this post and didn’t find it sloppy or boring; please leave a comment below and enjoy your Sunday!

Apple crumble

My family’s favourite cookbook (The Cookery Year; quite an old edition, published in 1973)is full of appetizing recepies. Every now and then my Mum opens this book on page 347 and makes a fabulous dessert called Apple Crumble. It is delicious and it made me think: why not share the recipe with you as well? Here you go!

IMG_6173                                               IMG_6175

Apple Crumble :

Preparation time: 25 min.

Cooking time: 45 min.

1 oz.= 25g

1 lb.=450g

apple crumble

Ingredients (for 4-6):

  • 1½ lb. cooking apples
  • 1 oz. cinnamon
  • 1 oz. caster sugar
  • grated rind of half a lemon

  • 6 oz.plain flour
  • 3 oz. margarine
  • 2 oz. caster sugar
  • ½ oz. Demerara sugar

Peel, core and slice the apples thinly.Put them, sprinkled with caster sugar and cinnamon, into a 3 pint pie dish; top with lemon rind.

For the topping, sift the flour into a mixing bowl, cut up the margarine and rub it lightly into the flour with the tips of your fingers. Mix in the caster sugar. Spoon the crumble mixture over the apples and press it down lightly. Sprinkle the Demerara sugar on top. Place the dish on a baking tray and bake in the centre of the oven at 400 °F ( 200 °C) for 45 minutes. Serve with custard or cream.

Feel free to try this with any other fruit; we sometimes add some rhubarb or blackberries. Let me know your opinion on this in the comments below and enjoy your Sunday!

An unusual Q&A

Hello there!

I decided to do a slightly different Q&A on this sunny Sunday. (At least, it’s sunny where I live :)) So I asked a few friends of mine to give me some interesting questions, searched online and woah, did I get some good ones! Enjoy!

Q: Do you currently have a mosquito bite?

A: Nope, thank Goodness, although there was one in my room the other night, but it didn’t bite me. Thanks.

Q: Do you think it’s OK for guys to wear pink?

A: Yes, of course. Everyone is free to choose what they wear, and people shouldn’t judge others according to their looks.

Q: Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed?

A: Closed. I like to have privacy.

Q: Would you strip for a magazine?

A: Definately not. Not even for the Vogue. I’m very private in this area.

Q: What did you last watch on TV?    A: Pretty Woman. I love that film.

Q: When was the last time you swam in a pool?

A: On Tuesday, 5th of July in the local swimming pool.

Q: What was the last thing you bought?

A: An Essence lipstick, which you may see a review of later on. 😉

Q: What’s under your bed?

A: Other than dust? A drawer with my sheets, pillows, etc. in it.

Q: If you had to chose an extreme sport to participate in, which one would it be?

A: Windsurfing and I’d also love to try riding a quad. It must be so much fun!

Q: When did you last sneeze?

A: Honestly about a minute ago. I was sneezing all day yesterday. Stupid allergy.

Q: Which is your favourite yoga pose?

A: Oh, difficult question. Probably the downward dog.

Q: Who are your celebrity crushes?

A: Oh God.. Louis Tomlinson, Luke Hemmings, Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee. To mention just a few.

Q: Lipgloss or lipstick?

A: Both. I can’t choose. It depends very much on my mood and the occasion. I think lipstick is more for important events/occasions, lipgloss is more of an everyday thing for me.

Q: If you could keep any animal in the world as a pet, what animal would it be and why?

A: I’d keep penguins because they look so cuddly and an elephant because I could ride it. I’ve no idea where I would keep them, but I’m sure it could be done.

Q: If you could only wear one make-up product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Hmmmm…. Mascara, the Miss Sporty Fabulous Lash Xtra Black one to be precise. That one is amazing.

Q: Which is your favourite TV-series?

A: F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I am obsessed with that series. I can watch it on repeat and never get bored. Love it.

Q:  Who was the last person you texted?

A: My mum. I asked her to go on Facebook.

Q:  What is your fave sport?

A: Horse riding and squash. You can get very tired in both and that’s why I love them.

Q: Why did you start writing?

A: I don’t actually know, it just came somehow. Weird.

Q: Who supports you the most?

A: My parents and my friends. They are always there for me and vice versa.

I hope you liked today’s post, if you did, please leave a comment. Happy Sunday everyone!

Eyeliner pen vs. liquid eyeliner (Essence)

This week I decided to compare my two favourite Essence eyeliners. Enjoy!

IMG_5878  IMG_5879.JPG

The first one is the Essence Easy 2 use eyeliner pen. I really love this one, because it’s easy to use and precise. It lasts pretty much all day and -unless you’re rubbing your eyes constantly- it’s smudge proof. When I’m in a hurry in the morning (let’s face it: nearly every day) I usually just apply it on my upper lash line and it’s done in about 3 seconds/eye. This eyeliner is best for those who don’t yet have that much experience in the terms of eyeliner or simply are busy in the morning, but still want to look elegant. I highly recommend it. It’s quickly applyable, easy to use and wallet friendly.

My rating for this product: 9/10 🙂

My other fave eyeliner is the Essence liquid ink eyeliner. This one is a bit more difficult to apply, but it’s far from rocket science to use. It has a high precision brush applicator, in other words you can use it for drawing a more delicate and elegant line. I use this for more important occasions. It’s my favourite for drawing a winged eyeliner. I recommend this product to those who are a little more experienced in applying eyeliner. It takes a little longer to use this one (for me anyway), so I suggest you don’t try it on chaotic mornings. Also, with liquid eyeliner you have to wait a little for it to dry, whereas  the pen dries quicker. I recommend this one as well as the pen, because it’s good quality, elegant, and affordable.

My rating for this product: 8/10 🙂

Easy abs workout

Okay, this is a pretty simple abs workout for beginners or for easy training.

  • 30 second plank

  • 20 bicycle crunches

  • 20 regular crunches

  • 30 second V sits

  • 20 high knees

Repeat 2-3 times with 30 second breaks between each repeat.

If you don’t happen to know what these exercises are, take a look  at these pictures I found online.  They  are simple, but after a while the results will show.

Just keep moving and don’t give up!

I hope you find this post useful, if you do, please leave a comment down below.

About me

Hello there!

My name is Christine and I started this blog to try and help people. Here you will find all sorts of things, for example fashion tips, hauls, advice on almost anything, personal opinions, the trial of beauty products, travelling and last but not least quick and easy recipes.

I would like to post weekly, hopefully on Sundays, but in the beginning I will post more frequently to get going. Possibly you won’t see much in the Travellling menu point until the end of August, because that is when my trip abroad will end but I will write my experience of some previous journeys.

My first post will be a 25 facts about me. If you read that and find anything in common, or you just want to get to know me, feel free to contact me.

I hope you all enjoy my attempts of quality writing and if you have any suggestions, opinions or requests please leave a comment.

Have a lovely day
